Thirteen years after GTA V launched on the Xbox 360, Rockstar Games finally has a date: November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Preorders opened at midnight on June 25 and are live now at every major retailer.

What GTA VI is actually about
The game is set in Vice City — Rockstar's neon-soaked reimagining of Miami — and the surrounding state of Leonida, a fictionalized Florida bigger and wilder than anything the series has attempted. For the first time in the mainline series you play as two protagonists: Jason and Lucia, a couple dragged into a criminal conspiracy that keeps unraveling across the entire state.
Rockstar's own synopsis: "When an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
The trailers show a world that makes GTA V's Los Santos look like a demo build. Interior count is roughly three times higher, the economy is fully simulated, dynamic weather includes hurricane events, and NPCs hold persistent grudges, form micro-storylines, and react to your reputation over time. This is not an incremental update.
The price — what to expect
Rockstar has confirmed two editions exist. The exact prices are still officially unannounced, but analysts and industry observers have consistently placed the standard edition between $80 and $100 — a real jump from the $60–$70 launches of the previous generation.
The Standard Edition is the full base game launching November 19. The Ultimate Edition adds premium vehicles, weapons, exclusive outfits, additional garages, exclusive mod shops, and over 50 tattoos designed by the artist collective FAILE — all unlocking progressively chapter by chapter rather than as a day-one loot dump.
Preorder bonus: The Vintage Vice City Pack
Anyone who preorders a digital copy before November 20, 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack at no extra cost. The pack includes the classic '55 Vapid Stanier sedan and Shore Court Garage in Ocean Beach, retro Vice City outfits and hairstyles for both Jason and Lucia, and an exclusive tropical weapon pattern — a deliberate nod to Tommy Vercetti's iconic look from the original Vice City.
Physical preorders include the same pack while supplies last. Pre-loading begins November 12 for digital buyers on both platforms. If you want to play at midnight on the 19th, preordering and pre-loading now is the move.
What the Ultimate Edition adds
The Ultimate Edition is built around content that unlocks across the story — Rockstar's way of rewarding players for progressing, not just for spending more upfront.
The '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy comes with a private garage and weapon locker in Watson Bay. Rideout Customs in Vice City and One-Eyed Willie's in Lake Leonida are two fully exclusive vehicle mod shops locked out of the standard edition entirely. The Classic Car Collection lets you hunt down and restore abandoned project cars, with four vehicles available exclusively in this tier. The Hawk & Little Morgan Revolver — his-and-hers revolvers with palm-tree-etched grips and engraved detailing — unlocks at Ammu-Nation as the story progresses. Electric Fang Tattoo and Stock 305 Clothing Store add over 50 exclusive tattoos and a full streetwear line for both characters.
If the base game price already feels steep, the Ultimate Edition is harder to justify unless the story content genuinely appeals to you. The vehicles and mod shops are the clearest value-adds.
Platforms and release timeline
GTA VI launches November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no disc — physical copies ship with a download code inside the box. Pre-loading opens November 12 for digital preorders. Sony has claimed the game "plays best on PS5," which is standard console war posturing; both platforms are confirmed day one.
A PC release is expected but unconfirmed. Based on Rockstar's history with both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, expect a 12–18 month gap after the console launch. If you are holding out for PC, that puts you in 2027 at the earliest.
